Lacy and Ivy Find New Wonders by Brenda Strand and Colleen M Bratley introduces young readers to two hardworking winter fairies who make the season magical by sculpting unique icicles and creating beautiful snowflakes. While Lacy and Ivy get a huge kick out of watching children and people go ice skating, sledding, and building igloos, they eventually decide that they want to explore the world beyond their own snowy mountains. So they fly south to meet their friends, Pixie Bloom and Velvet Green. Their first stop is a beautiful coastal area, where they discover a sparkling white coastline that looks a lot like snow but feels very different. They are left wondering what this wonderful white substance could be as they look closely at it under their feet. Will they find the answers they’re looking for in this beautiful, warm paradise?
Brenda Strand and Colleen M Bratley’s Lacy and Ivy Find New Wonders is a charming children’s fantasy that stands out with its uplifting focus on friendship, kindness, and cooperation among different characters. The story leaves readers with a genuine love for nature, weaving in gentle lessons about sharing knowledge and caring for the environment without feeling overwhelming. Because the writing is so clear and simple to read, it is a great choice for a winding-down bedtime read or a first book for a beginner reader. I really loved seeing how the fairies grew as they left the safety of their snowy mountains for a bright, sunny new world—it’s such a charming way to show kids that stepping out of their comfort zone can be an exciting adventure instead of something scary. The story moves along at a really nice pace that will easily keep little ones hooked. Honestly, the absolute best part has to be Diego D. Quiroga’s gorgeous artwork. The illustrations have a dreamy, soft quality that matches the gentle energy of the story perfectly and makes the whole book feel very magical to look at. It’s just an adorable story that families will definitely want to read again and again.
